It's 22

January 10, 2012 - Mike McLain
The Browns now know they own the 22nd pick in the first round of the NFL draft, in addition to the second pick.

The 22nd pick was set in stone last Sunday when the Atlanta Falcons lost to the New York Giants in a Wild Card playoff game. The Browns acquired the Falcons' first-round pick, along with their fourth-round choice, in return for the sixth overall pick in last season' draft. The Browns also received the 27th, 59th and 124th picks in the 2011 draft.

The Falcons used their extra first-round choice last year on receiver Julio Jones.

Having the 22nd pick gives the Browns a little more firepower if they want to trade up to possibly select Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III. Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck appears out of reach now that it's been reported that the Indianapolis Colts plan to use the first overall pick on him.

Using the trade value chart that general managers rely on to make trades, the 22nd pick is worth 780 points. The fourth overall pick the Browns have from finishing with a 4-12 record is worth 1,800 points. The two combine for 2,580 points, which isn't enough to move up to the first spot (3,000) but it's more than enough to move up one spot to third (2,220).

A more likely trade-up scenario would involve this year's fourth overall choice, one or two lower-round selections and a first-round pick in next year's draft.

The Browns would be wise to keep the fourth choice and pick either Griffin, receiver Justin Blackmon, USC tackle Matt Kalil or Alabama running back Trent Richardson. Given the need to fill spots throughout the roster, a trade down to add more picks is more likely.

Hey Mike, in the opening statement - is it the second pick, or the fourth?
