Songs of Christmas: The David Mayfield Parade's 'They Shined Up Rudolph's Nose'
December 4, 2013 - Andy Gray
I don’t usually do a top 10 albums list, but if I do one for 2013 The David Mayfield Parade’s “Good Man Down” will be on it. There’s something about his tenor vocals that is just irresistible on songs like “Love Will Only Break Your Heart,” which is 2 minutes and 53 seconds of Americana/country bliss.
The Newton Falls native and current Warren resident doesn’t have any Christmas songs on that album, but Mayfield did record a cover of Johnny Horton’s “They Shined Up Rudolph’s Nose,” which captures the playfulness that is a big component of his music.
Click the link, and not only can you listen to the song, you can download it for free. It is part of Paste Magazine’s “Holiday Sampler 2013,” which also features tracks by Sufjan Stevens, Nick Lowe, Good Old War, Bright Eyes and J Roddy Walston & the Business. It also has one of the greatest Christmas recordings of all time, Otis Redding’s “Merry Christmas Baby.”
Download the album for free at Noise Trade or, better yet, leave a tip to support good music and the sites that make it available.
