Children’s Museum kicks off science program
YOUNGSTOWN — The Children’s Museum of the Valley, 139 E. Boardman St., is introducing children to the world of science with a new program called “Science Wednesdays at the Museum.” Kristina Nicholas, development/business manager at the museum, said SWAM will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesdays, with a different topic each month. January will focus on weather, February on the human body and March on biomes. To kick off SWAM, a free community night will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Upcoming topics are Jan. 14 earthquakes and volcanoes, Jan. 21 clouds and water cycles and Jan. 28 storms. Future free community nights are also planned for Feb. 4 and March 4. SWAM membership is $20 for nine sessions (per family) or $5 a session (per family). “We incorporate fun with learning and offer many hands-on activities for children and their families,’’ Nicholas said.
