Browns' expectations running high
BEREA — It was a totally different opening to the Cleveland Browns training camp on Wednesday compared to a year ago. No one suffered an injury. The starting quarterback was already known. There were no holdouts. And expectations were high. Considering coach Romeo Crennel’s job was on the line at this time last year, Charlie Frye was named the starter of a preseason game after he won a coin flip and most anticipated the Browns finishing at the bottom of the AFC North, the peculiar feel was a welcome change. General manager Phil Savage addressed the media as he always does prior to the start of training camp, and he, too, noticed the odd sense of comfort. “This camp has quite a bit of a different feel to it,” Savage said. “We don’t have a circus atmosphere or crisis management or anyone holding out. So I feel like our feet are on the ground somewhat at this point. “It means something to be a Cleveland Brown again,” Savage added.
