Despite record, Browns’ defense is pulling through
In case you haven’t noticed, the Cleveland Browns are playing fairly well on the defensive side. A 1-3 record makes it easy to overlook anything good that happened in the first four games, but it’s hard not to notice improvement in an area that was the focal point of the offseason. The defense has yielded less than 300 total yards in three of the four games and is ranked 15th in the NFL with an average yield of 313 yards per game. If someone had said the defense would play that well before the season began, you would have probably thought that the Browns would have been 3-1 entering their bye week. It was assumed that the offense would produce plenty of points with its strong line and supposed outstanding talent at the skilled positions. Instead, the defense is stealing the show, while the offense has been hampered by injuries and poor play by key players. With a few more touchdowns, losses to Pittsburgh and Baltimore could have easily gone the other way.
