COPELAND OAKS has recently implemented a different style of food service for residents in assisted living, and these changes are expected to take effect at Crandall Medical Center next year. It is known as decentralized feeding.

It is a move away from using trays in institutionalized feeding and allows for higher quality food and varied food choices, as well as providing an outlet in which residents can socialize as they eat instead of sitting in their apartments or rooms and eating alone. Residents go to the kitchen for all three meals, and receive their food immediately after it is prepared, ensuring that their meal is hot and fresh.

Decentralized feeding also allows residents to have more control over their food choices and when they would like to eat their meals.

The hope is to see this program fully implemented by the end of 2011.
