COLORECTAL CANCER AWARENESS MONTH: In recognition of Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, the Humility of Mary Health Partners Cancer Centers are offering free fecal occult blood test (FOBT) kits.
An FOBT is a simple chemical test that can detect hidden blood in the stool, which is a symptom of colorectal cancer. This test can be performed in the privacy of your home. Those at risk for colorectal cancer are 50 years and older, physically inactive, smokers, and those with a family history of the disease. If detected early, colorectal cancer is 90 percent curable.

DIABETIC SUPPORT GROUP MEETING: Dr. Podolsky, DPM, from the Ankle & Foot Care Centers, and Marie Economos from the Ohio State University Extension will be the guest speakers for the Diabetic Support Group's March 24 meeting. AKRON CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL MAHONING VALLEY: Akron Children's Hospital Mahoning Valley has been awarded a grant of $10,000 from The J. Ford Crandall Memorial Foundation to help fund renovation costs associated with the opening of the pediatric surgery center which is located on the Beeghly Campus in Boardman.
In recognition of the donation, the family consultation room located within the surgical services area will be named for the J. Ford Crandall Memorial Foundation.
YOUNGSTOWN ORTHOPAEDIC ASSOCIATES: Youngstown Orthopaedic Associates has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for the advanced MRI unit it launched in December 2009.
YOA's MRI unit is a state-of-the-art General Electric 1.5-tesla high-definition unit that brings unprecedented clarity, speed and energy savings to the process. Pictures are much sharper than traditional MRI units, and a typical scan takes 15-18 minutes, instead of 40-45 minutes.
