LEAVITTSBURG - James A. Persons Sr., 68, died Tuesday morning, May 29, 2012, at St. Joseph Health Center.
He was born June 24, 1943, in Warren, the son of the late James Isaac Mathias Persons and Luella Alabama Brown Persons.
He was a lifetime Leavittsburg area resident.

Jim served in the U.S. Air Force for four years during Vietnam as an Airman 2nd Class from 1961 to 1965. He worked for 18 years at Republic / LTV Steel in the blast furnace and mold yard.
Jim enjoyed woodcarving, bird watching and listening to talk radio. He enjoyed bowling and bowled on area leagues. He was an avid Cleveland sports fan, especially the Cleveland Indians. Jim enjoyed the Browns, Ohio State Buckeyes and Youngstown State University football.
He served as caregiver for several family members.
Jim was a member of the New Apostolic Church in Champion.
He is survived by four daughters, Lylia L. (Mark) Egelsky of Masury, Lisa A. (Morad) Bhaih, with whom he made his home in McKinley Heights, Rondelyn Rene Robertson of Brookfield and Sonja L. (James) Lester of Leavittsburg; four sons, James A. (Shirley) Persons Jr. of Leavittsburg, Shawn E. Persons of Brookfield, David E. Aikins Sr. of Warren and DuWayne E. (Charlene) Aikins Sr. of Bowie, Md.; three sisters, Alverta Fish and Annabell Fuller, both of Warren, and Carolyn K. (Chuck) Sinn of Virginia Beach, Va.; 29 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
Jim was preceded in death Aug. 3, 2011, by his wife, Dorothea Ellen "Dottie" Duke Persons, whom he married Nov. 26, 1978; two sisters, Luella Ilene Hockensmith and Betty Maie Persons; and two infant brothers have also preceded him in death.
The funeral service will be at noon Friday at Lane Family Funeral Home, Roberts-Clark Chapel in Warren, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to the service on Friday. Burial will be in Pine Knoll Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded.
