Valley hospitals deemed top performers

Three hospitals in the Youngstown metropolitan area are considered top performing, according to U.S. News & World Report annual Best Hospital rankings.

The hospitals are St. Elizabeth, St. Joseph and St. Elizabeth, Boardman, Heath Centers. They are all part of the Humility of Mary Health Partners system and are also recognized in the Best Hospitals in the Glaciated Plateau region, which covers northeast Ohio.

St. Elizabeth is ranked No. 7 in Ohio. The hospital is ranked 48th nationally in gynecology and is high-performing in 10 specialties: cancer; cardiology and heart surgery; diabetes and endocrinology; ear, nose and throat; gastroenterology; geriatrics; nephrology; neurology and neurosurgery; pulmonology; and urology.

St. Joseph is ranked No. 27 in Ohio and is recognized as high-performing in gastroenterology, geriatrics, nephrology and pulmonology.

St. Elizabeth Boardman is ranked No. 29 in Ohio and is recognized as high-performing in geriatrics, nephrology and pulmonology.

This year's Best Hospitals showcases more than 720 of the nation's roughly 5,000 hospitals.

The rankings were published by U.S. News in collaboration with RTI International, a research organization based in Research Triangle Park, N.C.
