There were 65 fewer Lordstown-made Chevrolet Cruzes sold in the three-county region during July than were sold during July 2011, according to a report of the Automobile Dealers Association of Eastern Ohio report released on Friday.

There were 113 Cruzes sold last month compared to 178 sold in July 2011.

This continues a slide in sales of Chevrolet's locally made small car that has been happening throughout the first seven months of this year. There were 810 Cruzes sold from Jan. 1 to July 31 compared to 1,312 Cruzes sold during the same period of 2011, a 502 vehicle drop.

In spite of this decline, the Cruze was still the second-most new car sold in the ADAEO region during July. Only the Chevrolet Malibu sold more new vehicles, with 123 sold in July, a five-vehicle increase over the 118 Malibus sold in the region during July 2011.

The ADAEO monitors the sales of new and used vehicles at dealerships across Columbiana, Mah-oning and Trumbull counties.

There were six Chevrolet model vehicles, including the Malibu, Cruze, Silverado 1500, Traverse, Equinox and Impala, among the top 10 sold in the region. Three Fords - the F-150, Escape and Fusion - also were among the 10th-most popular vehicles. Honda Civic was the 10th most popular car sold in the region.

There were slightly more new and used vehicles sold through July 31 in the region than during the same period in 2011.

There were 5,392 total new and used vehicles sold in July, an increase of 213 vehicles from the 5,179 vehicles sold in July 2011. There have been a total of 39,092 new and used vehicles sold from Jan. 1 through July 31 compared to 39,066 new and used vehicles sold during the same period in 2011, a 26 vehicle increase.

With 252 sales, Greenwood Chevrolet sold the most vehicles, both new and used. Taylor Kia, with 202 new and used vehicles sold, came in second.

There were 2,110 new vehicles sold during July 2012 compared to 1,999 sold in July 2011, a 79-vehicle increase over last year.

However, through the first seven months of 2012, there were fewer new cars sold, 14,181, compared to the same period in 2011 when there 14,839 vehicles sold.

Bob & Chuck Eddy Chrysler Dodge Jeep sold the most new vehicles in July, 143 vehicles, and Greenwood Chevrolet, 130 vehicles, came in second.
