NEWTON FALLS - Tribune Chronicle editors and staff headed to southwest Trumbull County for their monthly Meet the Editors gathering to hear from readers. Publisher Charles Jarvis said the informal monthly events provide ''a fun opportunity to get out and meet people we haven't seen before.''
Rick Kerlin of Newton Falls said the community is ''very proud of our veterans'' and praised the Tribune for its coverage of the veterans.
Jarvis said, ''We have a soft spot for our veterans. Many of them come to the newspaper to see us.''

He said plans are to release a book on Veterans Day containing the interviews and profiles of more than 200 local veterans featured in the Tribune Chronicle since 2003.
Newton Falls Mayor Lyle Waddell said he and others are working to change the often ''bad reputation'' Newton Falls receives.
''We have good things that happen in our community, but often the bad is what gets reported. It appears we don't get the positive publicity. We want to remedy the image of the community and show it in a positive light,'' he said.

Jarvis said the newspaper wants to cover and show the many Newton Falls events, such as the summer July 4 festival, chili cookoff and car shows. He said items, including photos from residents, can be sent to the Tribune Chronicle through the Virtual Newsroom on the newspaper's website, tribtoday.com.
''Let us know of your events so we can cover them. If we can't be there, you can always submit your photos to the paper,'' he said.
Circulation Manager Ted Snyder said the Tribune has more than 1,000 subscribers in the Newton Falls area and in nearby Windham and Garrettsville for the western tier of the county.

The next Meet the Editors event is set for 6 p.m. Sept. 20 at the Ralph Infante Wellness Center in Waddell Park in Niles.
Resident Terry Alberini said he enjoys the editorials, noting he respects different opinions on various issues and topics, even if he disagrees.
He asked the process on how the editorial board decides the newspaper's stance. Editorial Page Editor Guy Coviello said the publisher, general manager, executive editor and himself meet weekly to discuss topics and forumulate consensus opinions.
Jarvis said the editorials are a way to begin discussions with the public.
''We don't expect everyone to agree with us. We want to start the discussion and get the feedback from our readers. Many will send us letters,'' he said.
More than 20 people attended the meeting in Newton Falls.
Meet the Editors events are being held each month in a different Trumbull County in conjunction with the 200th anniversary of newspapers in the county.
