William R. Roscoe Sr. 1927-2012

KINSMAN - William R. Roscoe Sr., 85, of Kinsman, died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012, at Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren.

He was born Jan. 21, 1927, in Youngstown, a son of Alex and Judith Britko Roscoe.

A lifetime area resident, Mr. Roscoe was a 1945 graduate of Gustavus High School.

He was a veteran, having enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1945, was injured in training and discharged in 1946.

Mr. Roscoe retired from Copperweld Steel in Warren in 1986 after many years of service. He and his wife, Helen, owned and operated Roscoe's Ceramic Hut in Kinsman for more than 25 years.

He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Kinsman, and his hobbies included ceramics, bowling and gardening.

Mr. Roscoe married Helen R. Miller Roscoe on July 2, 1949, and she preceded him in death on June 8, 2008.

Also preceding him were his parents; a granddaughter, Christian Stella; a great-granddaughter, Jillaina Fenn; a great-grandson, Jeffrey Betts, Jr.; two sisters, Ilona Roscoe and Ethel Hamilton; and five brothers, Alex, George, Edward, Charles and Emil Roscoe.

He is survived by five daughters, Cheryl M. (Robert) Melvin of Kinsman, Carlene M. (Roy Lee) Reeves of Fort Myers, Fla., Sister Yvonne Roscoe, SND, of Titusville, Fla., Elona A. (Timothy) Kelly of Brookfield and Karen S. (Dale) Fenn of Kinsman; a son, William R. (Debbie) Roscoe Jr. of Kinsman; 12 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Cornelius Roscoe of Mecca, and Stanley Roscoe and Richard Roscoe, both of Gustavus.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 6397 state Route 87, Kinsman. Burial will follow in Kinsman Cemetery, where military honors will be performed by the Cortland American Legion Post 540.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Baumgardner Funeral & Cremation Service, 8569 Main St., Kinsman.
