Samuel Delaquila Sr. 1932-2012

HOWLAND - Samuel "Sam" Delaquila Sr., 80, died at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, 2012, at his residence.

He was born Jan. 30, 1932, in Warren, the son of the late Michael Sr. and Mabel Delaquila.

Sam was a graduate of Warren G. Harding High School and Youngstown State University, where he earned a bachelor's degree from the Dana School of Music. He retired in 2011 as Howland Township clerk after 26 years. He retired as the assistant band director of Howland High School and had also taught music at Randolph, Bloomfield, Warren City and Howland school systems.

Sam had been a real estate property appraiser for Trumbull County Auditors for more than 20 years. Sam was also the owner and operator of Delaquila Realty for the last 45 years. He taught real estate classes at various branches of Kent State University. He had his own band, Sam Delaquila, for more than 50 years.

Sam was an avid Ohio State University fan and Cleveland sports fan. He enjoyed traveling to Mountaineer and Las Vegas. Sam served in the U.S. Coast Guard on the USS Campbell during the Korean Conflict and was an active member with the Howland American Legion Post 700.

On Oct. 16, 1954, he married Dorothy Holupko Delaquila, and she preceded him in death on Aug. 16, 2004.

He will be sadly missed by his three children, Samuel "Sam" (Joanne) Delaquila Jr. of Howland, David (Laura) Delaquila of Howland and Vicki Lynn Delaquila of Euclid; three grandchildren, Angela, Alycia and Abigail Delaquila; two brothers, Michael G. (Barbara) Delaquila Jr. and Richard (Bonnie) Delaquila Sr., both of Howland; and his loving companion for the last six years, Dorothy Ruberto.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Church, with the Rev. Thomas Eisweirth officiating. Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday and 9:30 to 10 a.m. Monday at the Peter Rossi Son Memorial Chapel.

Entombment will be in Pineview Memorial Park, Warren.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Howland American Legions Post 700 in his name, P.O. Box 8735, Warren, OH 44484.
