NEWTON FALLS - Howard Bennett Allen, 76, passed away into eternal life on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012, at his residence.
On Sept. 17, 1936, in Warren, Harold B. and Grace Lois Brown Allen gave birth to their son, Howard.
Howard met the love of his life, Barbara Lee Inbody, during his schooling and married her on Oct. 27, 1957. They enjoyed 54 blessed years of marriage together.

In 1952, Howard was hired at the A&P grocery store where he worked for 13 years. In 1966, he was employed by General Motors and retired after 31 years. In 1976, Howard also became a part-time police officer in a newly formed department for Newton Township and later served as chief for 8 1/2 years. In 1986, he resigned from the township force and joined the Newton Falls City police force on a part-time basis.
Howard is a 32 Degree Mason and Past Master of the Newton Falls Lodge 462. He served on the Board of Directors of the Cavalier Federal Credit Union for more than 25 years, was a charter member of the UAW Local 1714, a member of Local 1112, a member of the FOP Lodge 120 of Newton Falls, a member of Order of Eastern Star Chapter 79, and was a 40-year plus member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Newton Falls.
Howard really enjoyed bowling, and spending time with his family was an important part of his life.
Memories of Howard will be carried on by his loving family; his wife, Barbara Allen of Newton Falls; his daughter, Laura (Ken) Young of Newton Falls; his sons, Donald B. Allen of Newton Falls, David (Karen) Allen of Chagrin Falls and Daniel (Justine) Allen of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; his sisters, June (Robert) Popham of Kent, Lois (Richard) Scroggs of Aurora, Marilyn (Charles) Grounds of Warren and Carol Sinn of Cortland; his eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the James Funeral Home in Newton Falls. There will be a Masonic Services at 6 p.m. followed by a FOP service at 6:30 p.m. prior to calling hours.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Messiah Lutheran Church in Newton Falls, with Pastor David Genszler and Pastor Dee Emmert officiating. Howard will be laid to rest in Newton Falls Cemetery.
Donations may be sent to Newton Falls Masonic Lodge 462 or the Fraternal Order of Police.
