NONVIOLENCE PARADE AND RALLY PLANNED: The second annual nonviolence parade / rally will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in downtown Youngstown. The parade will begin in front of the Williamson School of Business on Wood Street and proceed down Hazel Street to downtown Youngstown.
The rally will be in the city square following the parade. In case of rain, the rally will be moved inside to the former Phar Mor Center. Art awards will be given for the nonviolence art contest, best float and best banner following the theme of peace and nonviolence.
The parade / rally is the idea of Youngstown Sojourn to the Past students. Jeff Steinberg, director of Sojourn to the Past, will speak on nonviolence to East and Chaney high school students on Monday and at Youngstown Early College on Tuesday. He will also be speaking at 6 p.m. Monday at the main branch of the public library. A variety of activities have also been planned on YSU campus.

RED CROSS HOLDS OPEN HOUSE: The Red Cross of the Mahoning Valley will hold a volunteer open house and information session, with session one at noon and session two at 2:30 p.m. today at the Red Cross Chapter, 661 Mahoning Ave. N.W., Warren. Volunteers are needed for local, regional and national work, with sessions to include discussions on the Disaster Action Team, service to Armed Forces and other volunteer opportunities.

SEMINAR OFFERED: The Yoga Room, 2232 Elm Road N.E., will offer a seminar from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday. The session, taught by Karres Cvetkovich, will feature methods for children to develop attention, memory, physical fitness and emotional balance with the use of yoga skills.

EVENT TO HELP BOY: A poker run will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Pooches Bar and Grill in Mecca to help the family of Corbin Burggraf, 10, a student in Maplewood Schools who was recently diagnosed with leukemia. The run along with a Chinese auction will help the family with medical, travel and treatment costs for Corbin.
Cost is $10 per person. Dinner is included with the $10. Bike rodeo games will be staged. Anyone unable to make the poker run can still attend with reduced prices of $7 after 7 p.m.
WALK PLANNED: The American Cancer Society Tri-County Making Strides Against Breast Cancer celebrates its second year of celebrating breast cancer survivors, remembering those lost and raising money to fight the disease.
The 3.1 mile, noncompetitive walk will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday at Canfield Fairgrounds. Proceeds support the American Cancer Society's breast cancer research, education, advocacy, patient services and community partnership grants for women.
