Daniel M. Leihgeber 1928-2012

WARREN - Daniel M. Leihgeber, 84, died at 10:25 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012, at Trumbull Memorial Hospital, Warren.

He was born Feb. 23, 1928, in Monessen, Pa., the son of Daniel and Louise Leihgeber.

Daniel came to Warren in 1942 and was a 1946 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School, where he played football and baseball.

Daniel retired in 1991 from Thomas Steel Strip Corp., as a roll mill operator after 44 years.

Daniel was the co-owner, with his lifelong friend Bill Henkel, of the Sportsman Cafe on Highland Ave. from 1955 to 1960 and the owner and operator of the Chateau Restaurant and Lounge on West Market Street from 1960 to 1977. He also owned and operated various car washes in the area.

He was a member of Blessed John Paul II Parish, VFW lifetime member Post 1090, Knights of Columbus 4484, and Elks lifetime member 295. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed traveling with his wife and family.

Daniel served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War. On Nov. 16, 1957, he married Marigold Cornicello Leihgeber.

Survivors include his four children, Mary Louise Amorganos of Warren, Roselynn (Jeffrey) Nelson of Warren, Danette Manusakis of Niles and Daniel M. Leihgeber Jr.; six grandchildren in Warren, Penni (Chris) Buydos, Danielle Amorganos, Nick M. Amorganos, Lauren Manusakis, Samantha Nelson and Jacob Nelson; and two great-grandchildren, Nicoletta and Elaina Buydos.

Daniel is preceded in death by his wife; and sister, Della Leihgeber.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday and from 9 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday at the Peter Rossi and Son Memorial Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Blessed John Paul II Parish (St. Joseph Church) at 420 North St. N.W., Warren, with the Rev. Jeffery Stealey officiating.
