Larry E. Kovarik 1926-2012

CHAMPION - Larry Eugene Kovarik Sr., 85, died at 4:33 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, at Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren, after a brief illness.

He was born Dec. 29, 1926, in Bradley, the son of James and Mary Takarsh Kovarik.

Larry was a graduate of Smithfield High School in Bradley and retired from Copperweld Steel after 35 years of service. Mr. Kovarik was the financial secretary of the Copperweld union for many years. He also was an honorably discharged U.S. Navy veteran, having served during World War II.

Larry was a member of St. William Roman Catholic Church in Champion. He was a member of the polka band Markic Zagger out of Cleveland; he played the clarinet and saxophone. Larry was the president of S.O.A.R. in Warren, and he loved to garden and hunt. In his later years, he liked to work crossword puzzles, play computer games and read.

Survivors include his wife, the former Ruth J. Stan, whom he married on Nov. 25, 1950; two children, Larry E. Kovarik Jr. of Meridian, Idaho, and Darlene A. Raines of Warren; four grandchildren, Lisa Kovarik, Joshua (Melanie) Raines, Joel and Jared Raines; four great-grandchildren, Emma, Elijah, Ayden and Carter Raines; and one sister, Dorothy (Ray) Matwich of Leavittsburg.

Other than his parents, Larry was preceded in death by one brother, James Kovarik; and one sister, Jennie Alden.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Carl W. Hall Funeral Home, where the Rev. Michael D. Balash will celebrate Larry's life.

Family and friends may visit from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery, Bazetta.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that material contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 70 W. Streetsboro St., Suite 201, Hudson, OH 44236, in his memory.
