WARREN - A local woman was named ''Queen for a Day'' as part of a local foundation's efforts to recognize individuals for their service for others.
Paulette Eisenbraun was selected this year for the honor and presented a proclamation from the city, along with gifts and prizes. A ceremony took place recently at the Upton House.
Eisenbraun is the mother of fraternal twins with Down syndrome. Her son also was diagnosed at age 3 with leukemia, which he has battled for three years.
Eisenbraun co-founded Putting Downs First, which hosts the annual Buddy Walk to raise awareness of Down syndrome, which draws a crowd of more than 1,000 people. The organization also serves as a resource for residents with Down syndrome.
Jennifer Campbell, organizer of the Queen for a Day Foundation, said the foundation is a nonprofit organization whose purpose is to change the lives of women and to help restore their dreams.
She said each situation is different.
''One woman may be for a struggling single mother while another may be a senior citizen who is in desperate need of medical care or home repairs. Our mission is to meet the needs of each individual,'' she said.
She said members of the community, friends, family and church members can nominate someone to become a Queen for a Day.
