DEAR EDITOR:
We can choose a potential leader by:
First, a leader must recognize his divine ordination. He must have the basis for claiming leadership. If he has the opportunity to influence lives, he must realize when God is left out, there is a consequence.
Second, a leader must be just. This means he should be fair and honest, he must have character and a quality of righteousness and be able to balance the needs and demands of opposing forces.
Third, a leader must realize we are living in a fallen world. Thomas Jefferson put it well, ''We must chain down government with shackles of a constitution.'' The leader must know the rules and stay within them. A leader must not practice deceit which ruins society.
Fourth, a leader must be a good steward.
The person in charge of public funds must use them to accomplish the will of the people even in the highest sense; or the whole system will become unglued. When people in increasing numbers lose confidence in their government and think the government does not know what it is doing financially, there are hard days to come.
Believing the praise comes to them is a great mistake. The leader must give the glory to God. He is the one who enables us to be thoughtful, who gives us brains to work, who makes it possible to live. God makes all things possible. Voters must place these things in consideration when putting one in office as a leader.
We should prayerfully consider these in our decision in the days to come.
