PITTSBURGH - Kendrick Perry's career-high 34 points wasn't enough to keep Youngstown State undefeated.
Mike Felt scored 10 of his 24 points in overtime as North Dakota State defeated YSU 83-80 Monday.
Perry's 34 points is the second 30-point performance of his career and the most points scored by a YSU player since Quin Humphrey's 35 against Wright State on Feb. 22, 2007.
"Kendrick had a great game for us," YSU coach Jerry Slocum said.
Felt, who entered the game averaging 16.3 points per game, was 6 of 14 from the field - all his makes came from 3-point range - and knocked down all six of his free throw attempts for the Bison in the sub-regional round of the 2012 Progressive Legends Classic at Duquesne University.
After tying the game with a 3-pointer at the buzzer, Perry opened overtime with a jumper as the Penguins pulled ahead 68-64.
The Bison (3-1) rallied - hitting back-to-back 3-pointers - to take a 70-68 overtime lead.
Youngstown State (3-1) tied the game at 72-all, but Felt converted two free throws and made a 3-pointer on consecutive possessions to seal the win.
"We showed a lot of heart being able to come back and force overtime," Slocum said. "But he had some defensive lapses that hurt us."
Alexander Lawrence added 17 points for the Bison.
Today, the Penguins face James Madison at Duquesne.
Duquesne 90, James Madison 88, OT: PITTSBURGH (AP) - Sean Johnson led five double-digit scorers with 20 points and Duquesne defeated James Madison in overtime Monday in a subregional matchup of the 2012 Progressive Legends Classic.
Quevyn Winters had 19 points and a team-high nine rebounds while P.J. Torres, Derrick Colter and Jerry Jones each tallied 12 points.
Duquesne (1-2) led by as many as 10, 46-36, in the second half but James Madison cut the deficit to 81-79 with 1:22 remaining behind an Andre Nation 3-pointer.
Devon Moore nailed two free throws with 39 seconds left to tie the game and James Madison (1-1) missed two layups and a tip in over the final 12 seconds to send the game into overtime.
Colter hit a layup to give Duquesne its first overtime lead, 88-86, and Jones was fouled after recording a steal on James Madison's next possession.
Jones sank the ensuing free throws to seal the win.
