WARREN - A 70-year-old Vienna man who was facing sex charges was found incompetent Thursday and ordered to a psychiatric facility to get treatment.
Trumbull County Common Pleas Judge John M. Stuard also ordered a status conference for Donald Beck on May 23 to determine if competency is restored through the Heartland Behavioral Center in Stark County.
Beck was examined by a psychologist who determined that Beck was unable to understand the proceedings he faced in court or unable to aid in his defense.
Assistant county prosecutor Gabe Wildman said Beck, who also has an address in Youngstown, faces Parkinson's disease and other health problems. Wildman described Heartland as a secured facility.
Beck was indicted earlier this year on charges of importuning and disseminating matter harmful to juveniles and freed on bond in April. That bond was revoked in August for violating terms of his release.
He had been accused of sending lewd pictures of himself to a minor female family member.
Stuard ordered him to have no contact with the 15-year-old victim or her immediate family while the case was pending.
Girard police said the victim's family reported Beck drove by the home several times and made various calls to the house.
On July 24, Beck was also charged with disorderly conduct by Mill Creek Park police, who said Beck left a sexually explicit note on the car of two women who came to the park for a walk.
The females took a picture of Beck when he drove by and he asked them to call him at the same number left on the windshield of their car.
Later in July, Hubbard police said they stopped Beck on a report that he was following a female around in his car. Officers said when they approached Beck's car, he was found with a pocket knife and with his pants down and his fly unzipped. He was charged with carrying a concealed weapon.
