Warren library to host art event

LIBRARY HOSTS ART EVENT: The Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, 444 Mahoning Ave., Warren will hold "Art in the Afternoon" at 4 p.m. Thursday. The program will include different art media. The session will focus on different artists' individual style. To register call 330-399-8808, Ext. 401.

TOY GIVEAWAY SET: The Sons of Allen Toys for Tots giveaway will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Grace AME Church, 1137 Main Ave. S.W., Warren. Local barbecue cook James "Sterling" Frazier will give away meals in exchange for donations that will be sent to the Hurricane Sandy victims in New Jersey. T-shirts are also being sold to help with the relief effort. Call 330-394-6270.

UAW GROUP HELPS AT HOLIDAYS: The United Auto Workers Local 1112 will sponsor its annual Care and Share food distribution at 11 a.m. today. Each year the UAW membership supports the cause with their time, money and efforts to lend a hand to more than 300 families.

COAT COLLECTION FOR HOLIDAYS: Girard's annual Coats for Kids program is under way providing new coats for children in need. Churches work with the school nurse and administrators to provide vouchers to be used at specific stores to help with the program. Anyone wanting to donate a coat can call Girard First United Methodist Church, 22 N. Market St, or Prospect Elementary School. Checks can be sent to the church marked "Coats for Kids' on the memo. STUDENTS TO VISIT RESIDENTS: Eight students from National College, Youngstown Campus, and their instructor will play Santa for six residents of Shepherd of the Valley, 1500 McKinley Ave., Niles, at 1:30pm on Friday. The students are from the Surgical Technology Program and are required to perform community service as part of their studies.The students will be visiting residents who do not have family living in the area.

BALLET TO PERFORM "NUTCRACKER": The Ballet Western Reserve will present "The Golden Nutcracker" at 1 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Powers Auditorium. A student performance will also take place for area school children today. Tickets are available by calling the DeYor box office at 330-744-0264.
