Wed. 10:52am: Blizzard and Winter Storm warnings for area

December 26, 2012
Tribune Chronicle | TribToday.com

The National Weather Service's Blizzard Warning remains in effect for all of Lake and Cuyahoga counties and that portion of Ashtabula County north of I-90 from 11 a.m. today through 7 a.m., Thursday.

Snow showers are forecast to kick in sometime after 10 a.m. and intensify throughout the day with the most severe snow shower outbreak expected this afternoon.

Along with the bands of heavy snow showers will arrive strong northeast winds with gusts between 35 and 40 mph.

Such conditions will produce considerable blowing and drifting of snow along with the likelihood of near-zero visibilities at times and possibly making some roads impassable.

This blizzard event will begin to taper off later tonight, the word "begin" being the operative term.

For much of the rest of eastern Ohio - including all of Geauga and Trumbull counties as well as that portion of Ashtabula County south of I-90 - a Winter Storm Warning is in effect, also from 11 a.m. today through 7 a.m., Thursday.

And while total snow accumulations in this warning area are forecast to mirror those within the Blizzard Warning area, winds are expected to be less intense.

Even so, says the National Weather Service, considerable blowing and drifting of snow will produce treacherous driving conditions.

Today's high is forecast at around 32 degrees and near that mark for Thursday through Saturday.

Lows for this period will be in the mid-20s tonight, falling to around 20 degrees for the rest of the week.
