Body of woman found near barricades
WARREN - The body of a 50-year-old woman was found at 2:35 p.m. Wednesday at the corner of Freeman and Vernon Avenue N.W. and Freeman Street, near some concrete barricades.
Police had not identified the victim as of Wednesday evening.
There were no apparent signs of trauma, according to police. An investigation is ongoing.
Patrol reports decline in holiday fatals
COLUMBUS - The Ohio State Highway Patrol is reporting that six people were killed on Ohio's roadways during this New Year's holiday reporting period of Monday through Tuesday.
Last year, 14 people were killed during the holiday reporting period, which was a total of four days. This year, the reporting period was two days. Of this New Year's Holiday fatalities, two occurred in Franklin County including a pedestrian, the patrol reported in a news release.
The public is encouraged to continue using #677 to report dangerous or impaired drivers, as well as drug activity, the patrol stated in its news release.
Warren woman reports attack by intruders
WARREN - A 19-year-old city woman said she was pinned to the floor by one intruder while two others ransacked her home Monday morning.
Police said Shantel Boss, 3238 Northwest Blvd. N.W., required no medical treatment even though her feet were cut by glass from a window broken out in a rear door of the home shortly after 10 a.m.
Boss said the one man held her in a choke hold while the other two made off with a $200 video game system and two $500 laptop computers.
Spots open on charter review commission
NEWTON FALLS - The village is accepting applications for seven qualified electors interested in serving on the Charter Review Commission.
The commission is formed every five years to review the village's charter and submit proposed changes to council for approval.
The commission has four months to submit changes, and the terms expire after eight months, according to village clerk Kathy King. The commission sets its own meeting times.
Interested residents should contact King at 330-872-0806 no later than Jan. 31.
Christmas tree pickup set for Cortland homes
CORTLAND - Curbside Christmas tree collection will be offered today and Jan. 10 by the city. Residents who wish to recycle their trees may also drop them off at Willow Park until Jan. 16.
