Police: Akron girl,

16, shot and killed

AKRON - Police in Akron are investigating the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old girl.

WEWS TV reports that officers responded shortly before 4 a.m. Sunday to a report of shots fired in the 200 block of East Archwood.

They arrived to find the girl dead of a gunshot wound.

Authorities have not released the girl's name nor provided further details of her injuries.

The investigation continues.

NE Ohio house explodes, others damaged

MADISON - An early morning blast has destroyed an unoccupied northeast Ohio home and damaged several others.

WEWS TV of Cleveland reports the explosion occurred around 12:30 a.m. Sunday at 1518 Parkview Drive in the Lake County village of Madison, between Cleveland and Ashtabula. The blast was felt as far as Geneva, which is six miles away.

Madison fire Chief Gene Lutz said all four walls of the house were blown out, and the roof collapsed.

Crews were set to begin digging up the gas line to the house after the scene was cleared in search of an explanation for the incident. Fire officials told the station any gas issue was isolated to the home that exploded.

Police make arrest after fatal Columbus shooting

COLUMBUS - Police have arrested a Columbus man in the Saturday shooting death of a 20-year-old man outside a birthday party on the city's north side.

Authorities arrested 25-year-old Dennis Oteng, also known as Dennis Boateng, Sunday.

He is charged with the murder of 20-year-old Kingsley Owusu. Owusu, whose identity wasn't initially known, was found shot in a parking lot at 3439 Westerville Road at about 2 a.m. Saturday. He later died.

Witnesses said a dispute at the party led to a fight and the shooting. They did not identify the topic.

The incident marked the city's first homicide of 2013.

Local elections boards set first 2013 meetings

Elections boards in both Mahoning and Trumbull County will hold their first meetings of the year today.

The Trumbull County Board of Elections will meet at 1 p.m. at the board offices, 2947 Youngstown Road S.E., Warren. The Mahoning County Board of Elections will meet at 10 a.m. at the board offices, 345 Oak Hill Ave., Youngstown.
