CHAMPION -- A section of Mahoning Avenue closed earlier today because of a house fire in that area has reopened, a 911 supervisor confirmed.
He said the area between Airport Road and State Route 305 was closed because of the fire that destroyed a house on Mahoning Avenue. He said that Champion Day Care, adjacent to the house, remains closed.
The fire broke out around 4 a.m. today, but is now contained. representatives from the State Fire Marshal's Office are on the scene investigating, officials said.
Firefighters said the house is a total loss, but crews were able to stop the flames from spreading to the day care center.
Two people were inside the house at the time of the fire, but made it out safely. No injuries were reported.
Fire crews said they had trouble at the scene because a fire hydrant was not working properly.
