Cruzes recalled for airbag issues

LORDSTOWN - About 2,000 Chevrolet Cruzes are being recalled due to problems that could cause the driver's side airbags to malfunction, a company spokesman said.

A total of 1,981 cars built Dec. 3 and 7 in Lordstown are being recalled, GM spokesman Alan Adler said Friday. He said the problem originated with the airbag supplier, and he noted there have been no incidents resulting in injuries.

The recall is an extension of a previous recall last year. It affected 6,845 automobiles, including some Chevy Camaros, Buick Veranos and Chevy Sonics, he said.

Owners with the defective airbags will be contacted. Adler said, though, if the airbag warning light remains on, the motorist should make an appointment immediately to get it checked out.
