YOUNGSTOWN -- The National Response Center of the U.S. Coast Guard said 20,000 gallons of oil and brine were intentionally dumped into a storm drain and ended up in the Mahoning River and one of its tributaries.
Tribune Chronicle news partner WYTV Channel 33 reported that the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency is conducting a criminal investigation into the ``spill'' that occurred on Salt Springs Road property owned by D&L Energy.
The Thursday incident was reported on Friday, according to WYTV.
Containment booms, absorbent pads and vacuum trucks are being used to clean up the site, WYTV reported.
