YOUNGSTOWN - Workers from at least two sewer cleanup companies are working to clean a brine spill in the area of Salt Springs Road.
The spill which occurred Thursday near D&L Energy at 2761 Salt Springs Road was being investigated by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency after reports that the spill had leaked into the Mahoning River.
Brine is waste water removed from natural gas and oil drilling sites.
A manager from Tom Sewer and Septic of McDonald said so far this morning they had flushed out storm sewers with fresh water and then re-collected about 60 barrels of the flushed water.
Workers expected to remain at the site throughout the day or longer as needed.
