WARREN - A church deacon, a former school administrator and a family physician are among this year's inductees into the Trumbull County African American Achievers Association Hall of Fame.
Each year, TCAAAA recognizes African-Americans who have had a positive impact on the community in leadership, community service or development, entrepreneurship, family development, education, religious outreach programs and artistic talent.
The inductees are celebrated during an awards ceremony in conjunction with Black History Month. The 28th annual induction ceremony will be 6 p.m. Saturday at DiVieste Banquet Hall, 754 North River Road.
Bob Davis, president of the Achievement Awards committee, said this year's group is from a wide background of occupations.
''It's a pretty good representation of all walks of life,'' Davis said.
This year's theme is ''Children Are Our Future and Education Is The Key.'' Davis said the association wants to reach out to young people and let them know they can achieve anything they want through education.
''We want to let them know there's options out there for them,'' Davis said.
Davis said a prime goal of the event is to honor the man who started it in 1985, Van Williams, who formed the association to showcase the achievements of African-American men and women in Trumbull County.
''Basically what we're trying to do is keep his legacy alive,'' Davis said.
Sterling Williams, owner / operator of the Sterling-McCullough Williams Funeral Homes in Youngstown and Warren, will be the keynote speaker. Youngstown native Madonna Chism Pinkard will be mistress of ceremonies.
The 2013 inductees are:
She volunteers with Guardian Angels from Common Pleas Judge Thomas Swift's court, Church Women United, and is a former member of Warren Civic League, and Club 15.
She completed her family medicine residency training at Summa Health System's Akron City Hospital in 2005, after which she opened her own solo medical practice, Warren Family Medical Inc., later that same year. She is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and is board-certified in family medicine.
An active member of Monument of Faith Church of God In Christ, she serves as children's ministry leader and sings in the adult choir.
A graduate of Youngstown State University with a liberal arts degree, she worked in the employment office, welfare office, Department of Mental Retardation and the Fairhaven Program.
After retiring, she worked for Valley Counseling and Summit Children Services. She is now a community relations specialist, working with low-income individuals and the agencies that support them.
Upon joining the church, he became involved with the Boy Scouts of America, and now serves as cub master for Cub Scout Pack 107. He is a volunteer leader, working with boys and their families.
He retired from Republic Steel after 44 1/2 years. Along with his participation at church in the deacon ministry, brotherhood, Christian education, Sunday school, men's choir and family choir, he also volunteers with Meals on Wheels.
He is a lifetime member of the NAACP, serving the local branch as part chairman of the Labor and Industry Committee and past chairman of the Legal Redress Committee. His community service has included volunteering with the Fine Arts Council of Trumbull County, Trumbull County Martin Luther King Dream Team and Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership.
He also developed a civil rights and harassment-free workplace employee training program.
She helped establish Warren's preschool, summer intervention and enrichment programs. She was a part of the SPARK replication committee that planned, coordinated and implemented the program for the district.
She is a member of the 2006 class of Leadership Mahoning Valley. She is also an active member of Friendship Baptist Church in Girard, where she coordinates the Church's after-school tutoring program, serving as a tutor for the program as well.

He represented his school at the Northern Illinois Big 12 Leadership Conference in DeKalb, Ill. He is active with the Children Achieving Through Community Help (Catch 84) Foundation and is a member of New Freedom Missionary Baptist Church.
She is a member of Agape Assembly church, where she is part of the youth mime team, the praise team and worship team.
She plans to join the Army Reserve and go to college for nursing after graduation.
