CORTLAND - Geraldine Ruth Somogynari, 86, died at 4:47 p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013, at the Gillette Nursing Home in Warren.
Geraldine was born March 14, 1926, in Hartford, the daughter of John and Edna Banning Mizner.
Mrs. Somogynari was a homemaker and a member of Cortland United Methodist Church and the Women's Auxiliary of the VFW of Gustavus. Some of Geraldine's hobbies were knitting, playing cards and bowling. In her younger days she enjoyed playing softball and basketball.

Survivors include her husband, George Somogynari, whom she married on Jan. 12, 1946; two children, Gerald (Dora) Somogynari of Clarksville, Tenn., and Jane (Ben) Molek Trask of Cortland; three grandchildren, Jodi (Donnie) Anderson, Janelle (Eric) Schultz and Jason Somogynari; three stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren, Preston, Duncan and Arianna Anderson and Savannah Schultz; four stepgreat-grandchildren and two stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
Other than her parents, Geraldine was preceded in death by her siblings Louise Wall, John Grant Mizner and Floyd Mizner.
Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Shafer-Winans Chapel, a Lane Family Funeral Home, where Pastor David Vensel will celebrate Geraldine's life.
Family and friends may visit from 4 p.m. until the time of the service.
The family would like to thank the Gillette Nursing Home staff and the All Caring Hospice for the tender care they gave to their wife, mother and grandmother.
