Thomas J. Gillen 1974-2013

MANSFIELD - Thomas Joseph Gillen, 38, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2013, at his residence of cardiac arrest due to an enlarged heart.

Tom was born Nov. 19, 1974, in Warren, the son of John and Gloria Loychik Gillen.

Thomas was a 1993 graduate of John F. Kennedy High School, where he was a member of the 1991 state championship football team and a member of the 1992 state runner-up team. He was a 1998 graduate of Youngstown State University, and was employed by the State of Ohio Department of Corrections for the past 15 years.

Tom enjoyed hunting, fishing and his family and friends.

Tom is survived by his parents, John and Gloria Gillen; sister, Annie (Tom) Needs of Helena, Mont.; brothers, John Gillen of Cuyahoga Falls, Brian Gillen of Greenville, N.C., and James (Jaime) Gillen of Austintown; niece, Maggie Needs; nephews, Matthew and Ian Needs; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, John and Tina Loychik; and paternal grandparents, Peter and Sarah Gillen.

Family and friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Church in Warren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. Bernard Schmalzried officiating.

Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Warren.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to the John F. Kennedy Athletic Department, 2550 Central Parkway, Warren, OH 44484, would be appreciated.

Arrangements are being made by the Peter Rossi and Son Memorial Chapel, 1884 N. Road N.E., Warren, OH 44483.
