Ernest R. DiGiacobbe, 1924-2013

WARREN - Ernest Ralph DiGiacobbe, 88, passed away at 12:15 a.m. Thursday, March 21, 2013, at Shepherd of the Valley in Niles.

Ernest was born Dec. 20, 1924, in Crabtree, Pa., the son of Vincenzo "Jimmy" and Josephine DiGiacobbe.

His parents emigrated from Italy to Pennsylvania in 1913 and moved to Warren in 1927, where the family stayed thereafter.

He was a graduate of Warren G. Harding High School.

Ernest retired from G.E. Trumbull Lamp Plant in Warren after 45 years.

He was a longtime member of Christ Our King Catholic Church in Warren and a Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council 4484.

Ernest was an avid dancer, enjoyed Italian food and music, and loved to help people and animals, but his biggest love was spending time with family.

He served in the U.S. Army and received an honorable discharge in 1943.

He is survived by his daughter, Deborah (George) Welch; a grandson, Michael (Regan) Welch; a brother, Emidio "Mi Mi" DiGiacobbe; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, family, friends and family canines, Tango and Roxie.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Margaret DiGiacobbe, whom he married Aug. 28, 1948, and who passed away Dec. 31, 1977; and a brother, Chester "Chilly" DiGiacobbe.

Family and friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday and from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Peter Rossi and Son Memorial Chapel in Warren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish (SS. Cyril and Methodius Church) with the Rev. Jeff Stealy officiating.

Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery in Warren.

In lieu of flowers, family asks that material contributions take the form of Masses.
