WARREN -- A 33-year-old Bazetta man was being held in lieu of $500,000 bond pending a preliminary hearing June 26 after prosecutors charged him earlier today with murdering the 4-year-old son of his girlfriend.
Scott Henry Walker appeared only briefly in front of Trumbull County Common Pleas Court Judge Andrew Logan on a felony murder charge in connection with the death of Charles N. Partin.
Partin died Saturday in Trumbull Memorial Hospital. The Trumbull County Coroner's Office ruled the death a homicide by blunt force trauma to the abdomen.
The baby's mother first told authorities early Saturday morning that her child had been treated at a Warren hospital for drinking carpet cleaner on Friday. The mother later recanted on that account.
According to police and court records, the boy's mother on Monday then told Bazetta Police Dept. Det. Joseph Sofchek that she witnessed Walker punch Charles on Friday. Paramedics were dispatched on Saturday when Charles was not breathing. The initial call mentioned that he had ingested carpet cleaner.
Walker was arrested in Packard Park on Monday evening and has been in Trumbull County Jail since.
Updates will be posted. Complete coverage will appear in Wednesday's Tribune Chronicle print edition.
