NILES - William David "Bill" Williams Jr., 69, of North Road, passed away at 7:58 p.m. Thursday, July 11, 2013, at St. Joseph Health Center.
Bill was born Nov. 16, 1943, in Lilly, Pa., the son of William Williams Sr. and Catherine Slebodnick. Raised by his stepfather, Elmer Carnes, and his mother, as his father was killed in service to our country prior to his birth, he moved to this area 42 years ago.
A past member of St. Stephen Catholic Church, he had been employed by the former U.S. Steel Corp. for more than 25 years as a mill wright. He was an avid NASCAR fan.
Bill is survived by his sons, David H. (Dedrea) of Niles and Michael A. (Amy) of Girard; two brothers, Chuck (Patty) Carnes of Niles and Joseph Carnes of Ebensburg, Pa.; two sisters, Mary Doyle of Loretto, Pa., and Linda Eger of Cresson, Pa.; and his five grandchildren, David Jr., Gabriella, Jeffery Jr., Michael Jr. and Alexzander.
He was preceded in death on June 15, 2006, by his wife, the former Bertha Rose Smay, whom he married Nov. 23, 1969; a son, Jeffery L. Williams; and a sister, Patricia Adelsberg.
A celebration of his life will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. July 21 at the home of his son, 824 Warren Ave., Niles.
Arrangements and care have been entrusted to the Robert P. McDermott Memorial Home.
