NILES - The Niles Police Department joined the nationwide "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" crackdown on drunk driving today.
In an effort to bring attention to the subject, officers parked a symbolic "police-cab" at the front of the station as a reminder to potential offenders.
"You can either call a cab and take a ride in a cab or choose to drive and end up in the police car," patrolman Shawn Crank said. "We put it out here as sort of an eye-catcher."
The crackdown goes from Aug. 16 to Sept. 2 during which time Niles police will increase patrols and conduct a checkpoint. More information on the costs of drunk driving is available at the Safety-Service Complex, 15 E. State St.
