WARREN - A judge today ordered competency and sanity tests on accused murderer Dale A. Hatch, 25, one of two men charged with killing Marco Dukes Sr. in a downtown shootout last fall.
Judge W. Wyatt McKay ordered a state forensic center to perform the tests which will most likely delay Hatch's Nov. 19 trial date that had been set.
Hatch, of Warren with ties to Detroit and also known as "Black," is charged with aggravated murder, tampering with evidence, receiving stolen property, attempted aggravated murder and felonious assault.
Hatch, along Derrick "Rizzi" Peete, 22, with addresses in Warren and Detroit, have remained at the Trumbull County Jail in lieu of $2.5 million bond since they were arraigned late last year on charges connected to the shooting death of the 32-year-old Dukes. Peete is facing similar charges and is scheduled to be tried Nov. 12.
Detectives have described last year's Nov. 11 shooting as a "major gun battle."
