NILES - Joseph J. Mordent Jr., 82, died Monday, Sept. 16, 2013, at The Cleveland Clinic.
He was born July 26, 1931, in Niles, the son of Joseph and Jennie Votino Mordente.
Joe was a 1950 graduate of Niles McKinley High School and employed as a steel marker at Heltzel Steel in Warren for 42 years, retiring in 1992.
He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Niles, enjoyed fishing, hunting, was an avid Cleveland Browns and Ohio State Buckeye fan, and was a United State Army veteran of the Korean War.
His wife, Mary E. "Libby" Holbrook Mordent, whom he married Sept. 28, 1957, died April 12, 2013.
Joe, who always said "I did it Libby's Way," will be deeply missed by a son, Michael J. (Lori) Mordent of Niles; a daughter, Mary Jo Vleck (Aubrey Gordon) of Highland Heights; and two grandchildren, Jaime and Joe Vleck.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Nicholas Mordente.
Friends may call from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Thursday at The Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Niles preceded by a 9:30 a.m. prayer service at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Niles City Cemetery, where Joseph will be honored for his military service.
