NILES - Dana J. Slick, 64, passed away at 11:52 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, at St. Joseph Health Center following a long battle with cancer.
He was born March 23, 1949, in Warren, the son of Harold and Marian Fox Slick and lived in this community most of his life.
A 1967 graduate of Niles McKinley High School, he attended the DeVry Institute prior to enlisting the United States Marine Corps.
After being honorably discharged from the Marine Corps, he became a proud member of the Teamsters Local 377 and forever supported his brotherhood. For many years, he was an independent owner and operator truck driver hauling steel for several local freight companies. For the past 13 years, he was a car hauler for Cassens Transport of Lordstown.
Dana is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife, Janet S. Rider, whom he married Dec. 26, 1974; two sons, Dr. Eric (Dr. Angela) Slick of Boardman, Chad (Chantal) Slick of Baltimore, Md.; and four grandchildren, Ethan, Brandon, Cameron, Isabella.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Charles and Harry Slick.
Calling hours will be 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013, at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, at the First Baptist Church, Niles, where family and friends may call a half-hour prior to the service. Pastor Dave Burman Jr. will officiate.
Burial will be in Niles City Cemetery.
