Two hundred and 37 years ago our forefathers set up this nation in such a way that it could prosper and be free. It was intended to be a government ''Of, by and for the people." Brilliant documents and well written laws were set in place for us to govern ourselves. With our newly established freedoms came a stern warning from the very men who had designed this master plan and escaped British tyranny.
These great men warned of excessive taxation. Anyone working today gives back 40 percent of what they make in one form of a tax or another. This is indeed excessive. We were told to be wary of foreign entanglements. Not only do our men and women die in undeclared wars overseas, we have no clearcut foreign policy to go by. This is shameful.
Our founders also cautioned us on the dangers of government spending. A national debt well into the trillions that continues to grow daily makes our children debt slaves the day they are born. Add to this the perils of a central bank (the Fed) with a debt-based monetary system that prints money at will is frightening at the least.
We were told to obey the Constitution because power corrupts. We see corruption across this country at all levels of government while the Constitution gets trampled on daily. Now a secretive government can spy on you at will under the guise of ''national security." All the while our two political parties conspire against the people, plundering us while they pretend to oppose each other. It's sickening what they want us to say, do and believe.
We were warned to remain sovereign and independent as a nation. Now we listen to what the United Nations tells us and submit to NAFTA authority while our borders are intentionally left open to endless illegal immigration. The very men who formed this government told us not to trust it. But ambitious, smooth-talking politicians sugarcoat everything, or flat out lie to the point we do not know who to trust or what to believe.
Most importantly, we were urged to maintain an honest, independent and unbiased media. But we have allowed the press to become full of propaganda, distortions and omissions to fuel their political agenda. Watching and reading most of that crap would be funny if it were not so scary. We were told the price of liberty would be a daily fight. But sadly, we were lulled to sleep by a myriad of distractions instead of being vigilant. And now the government has stolen our liberty and bankrupted our children. So much for ''Of, by and for the people." huh?
