WEATHERSFIELD - Township police are trying to identify a gunman they said shot a Youngstown man Saturday during an attempted robbery in the parking lot of McDonald's in McKinley Heights.
Police said 31-year-old Jody James was treated at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown before being released the same day.
Reports state James was sitting in his car eating around 3 p.m. when a man got in the passenger side of his vehicle, pointed a gun at him and demanded money.
This image released by police shows the suspected gunman as captured by a McDonald’s security camera.
"The guy told the victim to give him his money, that he knew he had money," said Weathersfield Police Chief Joseph Consiglio.
Consiglio said James tried to wrestle the gun from the suspect, but it went off, and the bullet hit James in the side. He said the gunman ran away and James drove himself to the hospital.
He said James suffered an entrance and exit wound from the bullet and that they believe the gunman had a small-caliber weapon.
Consiglio said police have no suspects at this time.
The gunman's image was captured on surveillance video from the restaurant, and police have posted the images on the department's Facebook page asking for the public's help in identifying the gunman.
