NILES - Courtney's Coats for Kids has been established by the family and friends of Courtney Miller, a 2009 Niles McKinley High School graduate who died in a March 2013 car crash.
Family members said in keeping with Miller's love of children they have started a program in her honor called Courtney's Coats for Kids.
Coats, hats and gloves are being purchased for children at the Niles Primary School, funded through the Courtney Miller Memorial fund. This is the first year for the program, with plans to extend the effort to other schools in the area in future years, family said.
Miller's hand-drawn heart patch will be placed inside each coat, which will be her trademark to symbolize her cause. Each coat will be packaged in hand-decorated bags and personally delivered to each family.
Miller was set to graduate in May with honors from The Ohio State University. She was attending college to become a teacher. She was killed in a car accident returning home from Florida.
Donations may be sent to Courtney's Coats for Kids, P.O. Box 146, Niles 44446. Make checks payable to Courtney Miller Memorial Fund. All donations are tax-deductible.
