Former Ohio House majority leader William Mallory Sr., before his departure, introduced legislation to name a portion of the 711 Connector after the late state Rep. Robert E. Hagan. Now, Hagan's son, state Rep. Robert F. Hagan, wants to return the gesture.
Hagan, a Democrat from Youngstown, intends to introduce legislation to name a portion of Interstate 75 near Cincinnati after Mallory, who represented that part of Ohio in the legislature for 28 years.
The section of highway was selected by Mallory's son, state Rep. Dale Mallory.
Hagan said elder Mallory's legislation to name the highway after the older Hagan following his death ''meant a great deal to our family'' and ''I wanted to return the gesture and honor a great legislator and an even greater man.''
Mallory, who served with both Hagans in the House and climbed to become the majority floor leader, was the longest serving majority leader and representative from Hamilton County by his retirement in 1994.
