WARREN - Police responding to various incidents Christmas Eve wound up arresting two individuals on charges of possession of drug abuse instruments and, in one case, heroin.
About 9:45 p.m., an officer returning from a report of theft from a vehicle found Tahsa Leasock, 25, of 2704 Draper Ave., walking west on Risher Road. According to reports, the officer noticed she was using her right hand to hide something inside her jacket.
When police stopped, Leasock said her ride had left, and she was walking to catch up with them. For the officer's safety, he asked her to remove her hand from her jacket.
She did so, but continued to hold her jacket in the same spot with her left hand. When the officer asked what she was concealing she stated nothing. However, when he grabbed Leasock's left arm, a plastic bag containing a hypodermic needle, a spoon with suspected heroin residue, a metal push rod and a Chore Boy, fell from her jacket.
Leasock was arrested on charges of drug paraphernalia and possessing drug abuse instruments and was taken to the Trumbull County Jail.
Shortly after Leasock was arrested, a second officer responded to shots being fired near the Stone Gate Apartments off Roberts Avenue about 10 p.m. According to reports, the responding officer pulled into the apartment parking lot where he noticed a Chevy Lumina backed into a spot with its headlights on.
When an officer passed the vehicle, he reported noticing occupants hurriedly attempting to drive away from the apartments. The officer stopped Donald Sarahs III, 46, of 1462 Melbourne in Girard, and Julie Sarahs, 30, of 4589 Herner County Line in Southington, who were in the car.
While talking with the pair about the gunshots, the officer noticed they were nervous. After asking if he could check the vehicle, the officer recovered a case containing several hypodermic needles and six bindles of suspected heroin.
Donald Sarahs admitted the contents were his, and he was arrested. A field test confirmed the substance in the bindles was heroin and Donald was taken to the county jail on charges of possessing drug abuse instruments and possession of drugs.
