FOWLER - James R. Haun, 72, of Fowler, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, Dec. 27, 2013, at his home.
He was born May 18, 1941, in Warren, to Charles and Maryann Johnston Haun.
He was a 1959 graduate of Fowler High School and went on to marry his sweetheart, Isabel K. Garrett, on July 13, 1963.
Jim worked as a millwright / skilled trades for Packard Electric, where he retired in 2005 after 46 years of dedicated service.
He took great pride in his community and served on the Mathews School Board, as well as serving 24 years as a Fowler Township trustee. He was especially proud of Fowler Township's historical green and of the Fowler Historical Society.
Mr. Haun was an active 32nd degree member of Lodge 529 of the Free and Accepted Masons in Cortland.
Besides serving his community, Jim found much enjoyment in the outdoors, especially farming, deer hunting and bass fishing in his family's pond. Jim also enjoyed sprint car racing and was a friend and follower of Lou Blaney Racing and the Sharon Speedway.
He was an avid reader and enjoyed researching and then sharing his family history with his children and grandchildren, whom he cherished and took great pride in.
He will be sadly missed by his devoted friend and wife of more than 50 years, Isabel; his son, Dr. Greg Haun, D.O. of Aurora; daughter, Cindy A. (Todd) Williams, R.N., of Fowler; two sisters, Joyce (Robert) Gardner of Andover and Barbara Mazzella of Warren; and his six beloved grandchildren, Seth, Aria and Soren Haun, and Maddison, Morgan and Jacob Williams.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Dr. James C. Haun, M.D., on Oct. 11, 2012; his sister, Mary Lou Joseph; and stepmother, Jenny Haun.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Madasz Chapel of Lane Family Funeral Homes, 6923 Warren Sharon Road, Brookfield, OH 44403, 330-448-6969. A Masonic service will be held prior to the start of visitation, beginning at 3:45 p.m.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday morning at the funeral home with the Rev. Gary Meikle of the Hartford Community Church officiating.
Burial will take place in Dugan Cemetery in Fowler.
