DENTISTS GIVE KIDS SMILES: The 12th annual Give Kids a Smile program of the Ohio Dental Association has local dentists join with their peers nationally to educate, examine and or treat children in need of dental care for free. In Ohio, nearly 2,000 dentists and other volunteers will provide a range of free dental services. Children will receive care from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Choffin Career &?Technical Center's Dental Assisting Clinic, 200 E. Wood St., Youngstown, and Friday at Choffin and Youngstown State University's Dental Hygiene Clinic, One University Plaza. Since 2005, volunteers for the Youngstown program have provided more than $172,000 in free dental care to more than 800 area children in need.
CITIZEN ACADEMY CLASS: Applications being accepted for the Warren Police Department's Citizen's Police Awareness Academy Training. The next class is scheduled to start on Feb. 19. Residents can obtain an application from the city of Warren's website or by stopping by the records departments, 141 South St. During the eight-week course, residents are given an overview of police policies and procedures. TAX AIDE OFFERED: AARP Tax Aide is a program of the AARP Foundation, offered in conjunction with the IRS, that provides free tax preparation and filing for federal and state tax returns. The preparers will prepare / file tax returns for the 2013 tax year through April 15. Bring photo identification, Social Security cards, documents for this year and a copy of last year's tax returns.
MENTORING MONTH PRESENTATION: In honor of January being National Mentoring Month, Enactus Group and managers from local Chase Banks have developed a partnership to offer high school and college students the opportunity to collaborate in education and mentorship to better prepare for the future. Students from Kent State Trumbull's Enactus Group work directly with students from Inspiring Minds. Presentations of final projects will be held from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Kent State University Trumbull Campus, Room 223 on the second floor of the Classroom Administration Building. The program had been rescheduled from last week due to weather.
